What is integrated photonics? A technology that brings together light sources and guides to create a circuit.

Integrated photonics is an emerging branch of the science of creating, moving, and detecting particles of light (photons) where light sources and things that guide the light (e.g., fiber optics) are built into a singular structure on a flat surface. This creates optical circuits that can process and transmit light the way an electronic circuit does with electrical signals.
