Glossary

PIPES — a DARPA program for creating in-package photonics solutions.

Pluggable optics — transceiver modules that connect network components to convert high-speed electrical signals into optical signals and vice versa.

Remote laser — an optical transceiver that separates the laser from the optical module.

SerDes — a way to send data that converts parallel data into serial data and back for more efficient transmission.

Silicon photonics — a method of transferring data between computer chips using light.

SuperNova™ light source — Ayar Labs’ multi-wavelength, multi-port light source.

TeraPHY™ optical I/O chiplet — Ayar Labs’ proprietary optical I/O chiplet with both electronic and photonic elements.

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) — a way to efficiently transmit multiple optical signals in a single fiber by using different wavelengths (i.e., colors) of light.
