What is Moore’s Law? Gordon Moore’s observation that the number of transistors on a chip would double every two years.

Moore’s Law began in 1965 when Gordon Moore, co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor and Intel, predicted that the number of components in an integrated circuit would double every year (revised to the number of transistors on a chip in 1975). While Moore’s Law long guided the development of chip technologies, size and cost limitations have slowed the pace, foreshadowing the end of Moore’s Law. However, new technologies like photonics are enabling continued advances.
